One week before Mark Streit celebrates his day with the Stanley Cup, he has found a new employer. He has agreed to a one-year, one-way deal worth $ 700,000 with the Montreal Canadiens.

"Montreal has always had a special place in my heart. I started there. One thing I always missed was playing at the Bell Centre," the 39-year-old defenseman stated on a conference call. Streit was drafted by the Canadiens in 2004 and made his first steps in the NHL with the Habs. From 2005 to 2008, he played 239 games for them, recording 29 goals and 95 assists.

Streit, who was an unrestricted free agent, played for the Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburgh Penguins this past season. He went on and won the Stanley Cup with the Pens. While his name will not be on the trophy, as he does not meet the requirements, he will still be able to celebrate a day with the iconic trophy next week.
