After the Swiss national team and Glen Hanlon decided to part ways earlier this week, the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation is looking to find a new coach for next season. EHCB's Kevin Schläpfer was a candidate.

As the Bieler Tagblatt reports, the Federation has led discussions with EHC Biel's head coach Kevin Schläpfer about the position as Switzerland's head coach and presented him with several offers.

EHC Biel's manager Daniel Villard confirms to the same source, that last week the Seelanders had been approached about releasing Schläpfer from his contract he recently extended until 2018.

Before that, the club had not been notified by the Federation about the ongoing talks but was informed about the developments by Schläpfer himself.

As EHCB's manager continues, it was either way not an option for Biel to give their permission to release Schläpfer from his contract: "We know what we have in Kevin. It is not just some Canadian that can be replaced by another Canadian." (lcu)
