(RUS) KHL

As the former IIHF president tells Watson, he has not signed a contract with the Russian hockey league.

RIA Novosti wrote this afternoon that the KHL has employed René Fasel to help solve strategic issues of league development. Having stepped down from his longtime role as president of the IIHF last September, the 72-year-old Swiss native was generally expected to get a position with the KHL for a while.

The Russian news agency even quoted the league's press release, stating that "Fasel has a huge, versatile experience and expert opinion in hockey, the league will actively involve him in solving strategic issues of KHL development."

However, this will not happen within the framework of a contract, Fasel said: "There is no contract with the KHL and there will be no contract with the KHL." He does admit that he is in contact with league representatives, but he has been for years: "The KHL is in trouble now. [...] Thousands of jobs are at stake. Now, when people I've known for decades call me and ask for advice, it's only right that I give an answer."
