HCFG's Director of Hockey Operations Raphaël Berger indeed confirms to Le Matin (relayed by SwissHabs) that they are negotiating with the organizers of the prestigious tournament. Gottéron was already in the running for this year's Spengler Cup but then had to make way for the Swiss national team.

According to Berset, the KHL will likely be represented by HC Dynamo Moscow next year. Moreover, the organizers of the Spengler Cup have an agreement with the Finnish federation in place for another two years. According to Kristian Kapp (Tages-Anzeiger), the deal states that the team which ends the season in the highest-ranked, non-CHL spot will take part in the Spengler Cup.
