In Sierre, Mario Pouliot will replace Yves Sarault, who left the Valaisans after one and a half seasons. Pouliot coached the Bonnyville Pontiacs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League but was released from his contract in order to become the head coach of HC Sierre.

Over the course of his long coaching career, which started in the 90's, Pouliot mainly worked in the QMJHL, winning back-to-back league championships and Memorial Cup in 2018 and 2019. In 2019 he also won the award for coach of the year in the Canadian Hockey League, the umbrella organization composed of QMJHL, OHL, and WHL.
