In a long press release written by himself, Törmänen announced his withdrawal from EHC Biel's head coaching position. He mentioned that, after chemotherapy being over in September, the treatments afterward would still take another year or two.
Törmänen thanked the players, the coaching staff, team manager Martin Steinegger, the chairwoman and chairman of the Board, as well as the fans.

The Finn had joined Biel in 2017. This April, the team had their deepest playoff run since returning to the National League, going to seven games in the final versus the eventual champion Genève-Servette HC.
