As a result of the tight schedule and the numerous absentees, as well as the fact that defenseman Erik Brännström will probably have to return to the Ottawa Senators before Christmas, the SCL Tigers have decided to engage Marcus Nilsson. The transfer is financed by a board of directors, therefore the signing of the Swede does not burden the Tigers' budget. Nilsson is expected to make his debut against HC Fribourg-Gottéron on December 11.

According to Sportbladet, Färjestad BK had also been interested in Marcus Nilsson, but the Swede decided to try his luck in Switzerland instead. The forward started the season with HK Sochi in the KHL, but his contract with the Russian team was dissolved at the end of November.

Before leaving Sweden for Russia, Marcus Nilsson played four seasons for Färjestad BK. In the 2019-20 season, he was the top point-getter of the SHL and was named the Forward of the Year. In 18 games for Sochi this season, he recorded two goals and four assists.
