Sven Bärtschi has had two very challenging seasons: suffering a concussion, being sent down to the AHL by the Vancouver Canucks and not getting another chance at the top level. Now he hopes that he will get a chance to prove himself with another team in the NHL:
On the podcast "Donnie and Dhali", two Vancouver-based sports journalists, the 28-year-old says that he wants to stay in the NHL - despite a "ton of offers to play in Switzerland," as the two hosts put it. "I'm just looking for an opportunity and I'm gonna put in the work here this summer and hopefully something happens," Bärtschi says.
Bärtschi spent the past season in Utica with the Canucks' AHL team and helped the younger guys there evolve. "I hope that other teams noticed that I wasn't just there to finish off my contract," he says. "I was actually here for work (...) and it doesn't matter what you're going to throw in front of me, I'm just going to keep battling."
After eleven seasons in North America, Sven Bärtschi is thus not thinking about heading home. In the past two seasons, he only appeared in six games for the Vancouver Canucks (two assists) and in 67 with the Utica Comets (18 goals, 42 assists).
