At the end of the past season, Jonathan Mercier did not receive an offer for a contract extension with Genève-Servette HC, leaving him without a club. Apparently, however, the club did offer him a job in the youth department at that time. Nonetheless, it is now clear that the defender has retired from professional hockey but will keep playing, albeit in an amateur league.

Over the course of his career, Mercier appeared in 825 games for the Grenats, the most by any player in the history of the club, collecting 189 points. During that time, Mercier won two Spengler Cups with GSHC.
