Genève-Servette HC won the game in the first period. Eliot Berthod opened the scoring for GSHC in the 6th minute. While Skellefteå managed to tie the game six minutes later, GSHC ended the first period 3-1 in the lead thanks to goals by Sakari Manninen and Daniel Winnik.
While Skellefteå managed to get a goal back in the third period, they were not able to overcome the deficit of the first period. Genève-Servette HC is thus the first Swiss champion of the Champions Hockey League since the introduction of the new format.
