Four weeks into the season, the first National League coach has to pack his bags. Unhappy with the team's performance last year and so far this autumn, augmented by other things, HC Lugano's administrative board, CEO, and team manager have decided to replace head coach Chris McSorley. The Canadian was with them for a bit over a season.
The new man behind the Bianconeri's bench is Luca Gianinazzi. A former player in the club's system, the now 29-year-old switched to coaching in 2017 and has been leading the U20 juniors since 2018. He was part of the club's future plans for the main squad anyway, now Gianinazzi gets the nod a bit earlier than expected.
Assistant coaches Paul DiPietro and Patrice Bosch have both also been let go. For tonight's game versus HC Davos, Gianinazzi will be supported by U17-coach Krister Cantoni.
