Even if six import-players would be allowed next season, HC Fribourg-Gottéron is not planning to increase their budget: "Christian Dubé has his budget, with how many foreigners he wants to play, is up to him," Hubert Waeber explains. "The first priority is to pay back our debts."
Despite the debt due to the pandemic, there is a possibility that Dubé will get some more money after all: "If the playoffs go very well and we go far, we might be able to slightly increase the budget for next season. But it won't be much more money."
In the interview, Waeber is also optimistic that Fribourg will be chosen as the second venue for the World Championship 2026 in addition to Zürich: "We are in the process of negotiating the final details with the Swiss federation and the marketer Infront - so things are looking good."
