In an interview with Watson's Klauss Zaugg, Raffainer explains that a change of coach would be pure actionism and, apart from a little media presence, would avail to nothing. "We have to invest every Swiss franc in the quality of our team and certainly not in another change of coach. As I already said in the fall, our team has had enough different coaches in the past years," Raffainer adds.
The 40-year-old Chief Sport Officer feels certain that 2022-23 will be different: "13 contracts are currently set to expire, half of players will no longer suit up for us next season. So, we are changing the wheels on a moving train. Our team manager [Andrew Ebbett] has a lot of leeway regarding next year," Raffainer reveals to the same source.
After their eighth straight loss in Lugano on Saturday (2-3 SO), SC Bern currently sits on the 11th place in the standings, one spot behind the qualification for the pre-playoffs. "We will definitely reach the pre-playoffs in the end and not remain 11th," Raffainer is convinced.
As for Swedish head coach Johan Lundskog, the 37-year-old joined the Bears from Davos in summer last year. His contract is running through to the 2022-23 season.
