According to HC Fribourg-Gottéron's CEO Raphaël Berger, the postponement of any kind of decisions until the end of the season has mainly to do with their own planning: "We had a schedule that was a little too ambitious," he explains to La Liberté. "But this does not mean that the reform is being called into question."
Berger assures that a discussion will take place with the players' union SIHPU, but also says in the players' direction: "They cannot take into account only what is favourable to them. (...) Until a year and a half ago, nobody was interested in the players' union! And suddenly, when certain things resurface, it's the most important thing."
In Raphaël Berger's opinion, to raise the import-player limit is a necessary step: "Are people aware that there aren't enough players in Switzerland to feed the [top-level] championship? No, because no one is interested in junior hockey (...) There are not enough young people in the country who accept to do everything to become professionals."
