NLA - Even though Serge Pelletier had denied rumors about Nolan Schaefer returning to HC Ambrì-Piotta in early March, the goaltender now returns to his former team, as La Regione reports.

The 35-year-old goaltender did have an offer from SC Bern on the table, before they had signed Janick Schwendener. However, the former San Jose Sharks draft pick did not want to be the number two behind Marco Bührer for another season.

Now, Schaefer returns to the team he had been a part of for three seasons (2011-14), before he left last summer in order to try his luck overseas. It did not work out for the netminder, but he then got signed by SC Bern in November. He played ten games for the Bears, before being sidelined with an injury.

Of course, the Biancoblù now have three goaltenders under contract, Sandro Zurkirchen is signed through 2017, whereas Michael Flückiger's contract is valid until the end of the 2015-16 season. The latter had been the subject of rumors in early March, as La Regione reported then that he would not feature in Ambrì's plans for the future. (mso)
