The cantonal government has reacted strongly to the fan riots of the past weekend surrounding the football match between FC St. Gallen and FC Luzern.

As the St. Galler Tagblatt reports, the cantonal government will work on all political levels to eliminate any standing areas in the stadiums and to make personalized tickets mandatory in Swiss football and ice hockey stadiums.

The first step will see government President Fredy Fässler introduce the two motions in the KKJPD (Konferenz der Kantonalen Justiz- und Polizeidirektorinnen und -direktoren), an institutional body that ensures the coordination of cooperation among the cantons and with the federal government in the areas of police, justice, law enforcement and migration at the political level.
