The 29-year-old defender and captain of the Nashville Predators has been awarded 2019 'Most Valuable Player' at tonight's Sports Awards.

In his category, which was newly introduced this year, Josi had to face Clint Capela (basketball, NBA) as well as Pascal Meier (floorball).

For years now, the product of SC Bern is being considered as one of the best defensemen in the NHL. At the end of October, Josi signed an eight-year, $72.4 million contract extension with the Nashville Predators, making him the highest-paid Swiss NHL player and the third-most expensive defender in the league.

Roman Josi made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Predators in 2011. Ever since, he has appeared in more than 665 NHL games (including playoffs), recording 110 goals 296 assists. In January this year, he was named to the Central Division all-star team for the second time in his career.
