The 33-year-old was one of more than a hundred applicants for the position. "With Patrick Bloch, we are gaining a young and committed leader who not only has an extremely sound knowledge of finance, but also knows Swiss ice hockey and its structures from the bottom up," chairman Michael Rindlisbacher explains their choice.

"I would like to thank the board of directors of Swiss Ice Hockey for their trust and look forward to working together and taking on this new task," Patrick Bloch says. The former defenseman took over as HC Thurgau's Chief Financial Officer in 2013 in addition to suiting up for them. In 2015 he was appointed as their CEO.

Bloch is expected to take up his new position with the SIHF in autumn 2019. Until then, Andreas Fischer, currently Director of Officiating, will work as their CEO ad interim.
