Yesterday evening, the team from Shawinigan defeated the Charlottetown Islanders 4-3 in the overtime of Game 5.

It was the seventh game that went overtime for the Shawinigan Cataractes in these playoffs, and they won all seven of them, including the most important one last evening. Pierrick Dubé's goal in the first minute of overtime gave the Cataractes the win and the President's Cup.

Canonica, a product of HC Lugano, finishes his second season in the QMJHL with 44 points in 53 regular-season games and one assist in 15 playoff outings. Now, with the victory in the championship, the Shawinigan Cataractes will represent the QMJHL in the 2022 Memorial Cup.

The Memorial Cup is a four-team yearly tournament that takes place from June 20 to June 29. The other three teams are the champions of the WHL, the OHL, and the host club, which this year is the Saint John Sea Dogs. For the Sea Dogs, two Swiss youngsters play, namely goaltender Noah Patenaude and defender Vincent Despont.
