After having signed a Standard Player Agreement with the Canadian team from St. Catharines, Giancarlo Chanton will be attending their training camp later in August. "This is a very exciting signing for us," Niagara's genereal manager Joey Burke says. "Giancarlo is the player we targeted ahead of the import draft, and we were thrilled to be able to select him."

The Niagara IceDogs selected Chanton as the 47th overall pick at this year's CHL Import Draft. Last season, the 16-year-old suited up in 21 games for the SCL Tigers' Elite-A, in which he put up a total of nine assists. Moreover, he was captain of the Swiss U17 national team.
