"The coach told me on the phone on Sunday that I would no longer be part of the national team as he wants to rejuvenate the team," Raphael Diaz tells the Freiburger Nachrichten. "Of course, I was very surprised and disappointed. [...] I was looking forward to the World Championship."
He would have liked a nicer end to his international career, as he tells the same source. He has, however, now decided to fully focus on his club, HC Fribourg-Gottéron.
Diaz, who has been the captain of the national team since 2017, played in four Olympic Games and eight World Championships. He won two silver medals with the national team, once in 2013 and once in 2018.
