Swiss National Team

According to Lars Weibel, the SIHF's Director of National Teams, the answer to this question currently is still "yes".

"As things stand today, the national team appointment in February [from 8 to 14th] will take place," Weibel tells Watson's Klaus Zaugg. Nevertheless, he adds that they would continue to closely monitor the further development of the epidemiological situation.

For Weibel, the risk of an infection is not higher than during the league's Championship or in the private sphere of the players: "Additionally, in contrast to the Championship, at a national team get-together there is a bubble state. The team will be isolated and basically only move around within the ice rink and the hotel. We will adhere to the the highest possible standards in terms of protective measures."

While the representatives of the clubs are against it mainly due to health concerns, also the SIHF-own medical commission is critical of the idea of adhering to the scheduled national team appointment. "The medical commission has expressed their concerns," Weibel admits. "We are in regular exchange with the responsible representatives." The same would apply to the clubs' representatives.
