"From a financial point of view, of course, this is a big cut," Marc Gianola, CEO of HC Davos, explains. How big the financial cut actually will be, however, cannot be estimated at the moment: "In January, we will probably know more."
Because the Canton of Grisons withdrew the permission for the Spengler Cup, HC Davos can, however, count on some financial support from the canton and the federal government, the canton writes: "The extent to which the uncovered costs can be taken over (...) is currently being clarified."
Although Gianola says that they would have been ready to play the Spengler Cup with five teams, he says: "We were in constant contact with the authorities and discussed everything with each other. We have to accept the canton's decision. And that is what we're doing."
