Rumor

Bertschy might reportedly return to his formative club with a long-term deal in his pocket. Hubert Waeber confirms that there is an offer.

A day after his rumored decision to leave Lausanne HC next summer, Christoph Bertschy is again at the center of attention of Swiss ice hockey: the 27-year-old has apparently found an agreement with HC Fribourg-Gottéron until 2029, as Le Matin writes.

The same source reports that Bertschy was asking for a gross salary of around CHF 800'000. Yesterday, HCFG's team manager Christian Dubé told 24 heures that they are interested in Bertschy, "but a player like that does not cost 100,000 francs a year. We have to discuss this internally, to see what is possible. But I do not have too many illusions."

Prior to Le Matin's news, Hubert Waeber, president of the Dragons, confirmed to La Liberté that they have offered Bertschy a long-term deal. "There are several variations. Five, six, seven years, with a salary that varies depending on the number of years. Since we cannot offer as much money as a team like Lugano, we sold him a complete package, with the prospect of being a special and important player. It is on the right track."

At the time of the chat between La Liberté and Waeber, a contract had not been officialized yet. "Until I get the contract back with his signature, I cannot rejoice. But I can tell you that I am nervous and excited because I have been saying for two years that bringing Christoph Bertschy back is a priority for us", he comments.
