Every team of the QMJHL is allowed to have two European players on their roster. According to Plante, rumor has it that the Olympiques, who are in possession of the 12th pick in this year's draft of European players, have decided to trade Russian forward Yaroslav Likhachyov and keep defender David Aebischer.

Last season was David Aebischer's first overseas with the Gatineau Olympiques. The 18-year-old defenseman suited up in 64 games for them, in which he recorded 31 points (four goals). The former youth player of HC Fribourg-Gottéron is still in possession of a development contract with HCFG, which is valid until 2020.
