According to journalist Steve Zipay, who is covering the New York Rangers for Newsday Sports, the Rangers have cut Swiss defenseman Raphael Diaz from their roster and have placed him on waivers.

If no team picks up Diaz within 24 hours, he will have to join the Rangers' AHL-affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack. Due to today's cuts, the New York Rangers' roster is currently at 23 players.

Already at the end of August, rumors were spread by Rete Uno that the 29-year-old might return to Switzerland if he did not break into the Rangers' lineup. Apparently, HC Lugano is interested, although Diaz still has a valid contract with EV Zug until the end of the season. (tme)
