According to the New Jersey Devils beat reporter Amanda Stein, Tom Fitzgerald, GM of the Devils, has reached out to Meier's agent: "Timo Meier knows that I believe this is the right place for Timo. He and his agent and I will talk and go through this and hopefully figure something out long-term."

Meier, who was drafted by the San José Sharks, was traded to the Devils at the end of February. In 27 regular-season games for them, he recorded nine goals and five assists. Combined with his tally from the Sharks, he recorded 40 goals this season.
