To ensure the realization of this project, the City of Sierre, the Sierre-Valais Sport SA (with president Chris McSorley) and the Urban Project SA have signed a framework agreement. The goal is to create "an innovative eco-district", which is supposed to "redesign the face of Sierre", as the City states in a press release.
In addition to the new hockey arena, another ice rink, and the multi-sports indoor complex, the project will also include two areas with housing, local shops, a theater and several green spaces.
The cost of the entire project, which will take more than ten years to complete, is estimated at CHF 320 million. The ice infrastructure is currently estimated at CHF 75 million. 30 million of it will be covered by local authorities, among them the City of Sierre.
