Despite having a year left on his contract with the Lions, the forward will continue his career elsewhere.

HC Thurgau

HC Thurgau will have to go into the new season without their top scorer, as Melvin Merola has signed with EHC Visp. The 27-year-old was inked to a three-year deal.

His old club states that the player asked them for a contract termination due to family reasons. "We would have very much liked to fulfill our part of the contract still valid for next season. With Melvin, we lose a very important player who has shown what he is capable of over the last two seasons," Lions' head coach Stefan Mair comments.

Over the course of the last few seasons, Merola suited up for a number of Swiss League teams besides Thurgau, namely HC Ajoie, HC La Chaux-de-Fonds, Martigny Red Ice and HC Sierre. All in all, the forward has made 365 games in Switzerland's second-highest league so far, recording 96 goals and 67 assists. He has also gathered some National League experience, suiting up 49 times for HC Fribourg-Gottéron.
