Burkhalter thus succeeds Christian Weber, who had to pack his bags and go in December last year. The team's current captain and forward will hang up his skates at the end of this season and take over his new duties as team manager and head of HCC's youth department as of May 1.
HC La Chaux-de-Fonds and the 37-year-old have agreed on a two-year contract through to the 2019-20 season.
