La Regione reported on Saturday that the ZSC Lions have signed Brandon Pirri for the upcoming season. However, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman (Sportsnet) said that Pirri has plans to stay in North America.

The Lions recently signed former New York Ranger defenseman Kevin Klein. Just a day later, La Regione broke the news that Brandon Pirri might follow his former teammate to Zurich. Larry Brooks of the New York Post echoed La Regione's report in a post about the forward yesterday but, apparently, Elliotte Friedman has obtained different information.

It is, of course, possible that both sources got it right and that Pirri has an agreement with the Lions which allows him to leave in case an NHL team offers him a contract. It remains to be seen if the Canadian will get another shot in the NHL or if he will lace up for the Lions in the 2017-18 season.

Over the course of his career, Pirri has appeared in a total of 226 NHL-games (for the Chicago Blackhawks, Florida Panthers, Anaheim Ducks, and the New York Rangers), in which he scored 57 goals and 41 assists.
