The 42-year-old Swede will succeed ad-interim head coach Martin Steinegger. He has signed a two-year deal.

"I’m really happy to be a part of EHC Biel-Bienne. The way the club has presented their identity and path moving forward is really exciting and is a good fit for me as a coach," Martin Filander states.

Filander's name had come up in connection with EHC Biel's vacant coaching position a while ago. Last week Blick reported that the two parties had agreed to terms. At the time, Steinegger had, however, not been willing to confirm the report.

Filander last coached IK Oskarshamn and was named Swedish coach of the year in 2022 and SHL coach of the year in 2023.
