In their press statement, SC Bern describes the new acquisition as a strong two-way defender with excellent shooting and skating qualities. Julius Honka spent the first part of his career in North America within the organization of the Dallas Stars which drafted him 14th overall in 2014. After that, Honka returned to Finland and then joined Luleå HF in 2021.
This season, Honka scored 14 goals and collected 17 assists in 56 games with the SHL team. Only Joey LaLeggia scored more goals among defensemen. Moreover, thanks to seven points and a +14 balance, he was one of the nominees for the Champions Hockey League's MVP award.
