"Mikko is the productive offensive defender we were looking for," Sven Leuenberger, team manager of the ZSC Lions, says about his new acquisition. "He is strong and a good skater. A complete defender who also plays very solidly defensively."

Lehtonen, who won with the Finnish national team both the World Championship (2019) and the Olympic gold medal (2022), has signed a two-year contract in Zürich. He is also set to suit up for Finland in this year's World Championship.

This past season, he has appeared in 30 games for the KHL's SKA St. Petersburg (including playoffs). He scored two goals and added 13 assists for a total of 15 points.
