EHC Biel made clear that they would like to keep the defenseman whose contract will expire at the end of the season.

"We are in the last phase and I think that within two weeks, there will be something concrete," Yannick Rathgeb tells the Journal du Jura. "It is important for me to know how the team is composed where I will sign, that's why everything takes a little longer."

Rathgeb confirms that EHC Biel is definitely one of his options. The newspaper also speculates that with Romain Loeffel leaving, HC Lugano might be the Seelanders' main competitor for Rathgeb.

With whomever he will sign, his new deal will not be longer than two or three seasons, because he is not a fan of long-term deals, as he tells the same source. The 26-year-old defenseman is currently in his third season with the Seelanders. In 22 games, he has recorded five goals and nine assists.
