"Although we did not want to put any obstacles in his way, we could not release him," SC Berns team manager Florence Schelling explains to the Berner Zeitung. "We have so many games ahead of us that we need two goalies who can support the team. Tomi understood and accepted our decision."
According to Blick, SC Bern had been looking for a replacement for Karhunen in the past days, but was not able to find one.
The Berner Zeitung recently reported that Karhunen has an offer from Sweden on the table and that he was not averse to accepting the offer. For a return to the north, the 31-year-old will now have to wait until the end of the season, when his contract with SCB expires.
