It seems that Hinterkircher would like to join HCC, but due to the current health situation, it is unclear whether he will be able to. As coach Thierry Paterlini told Arcinfo: "The squad is not yet complete, but we can't take the risk of hiring players without knowing when the championship will start again or how many spectators will be able to attend."
Mattia Hinterkircher had a valid contract with the ZSC Lions in place for the 2019-20 season. However, in mid-December, their deal was dissolved as per Hinterkircher’s request. He then joined HC Ambrì-Piotta, recording two goals and one assist in 22 games.
In early May, the forward told Ticinonline that he would like to stay with HC Ambrì-Piotta but that he did not know whether that would be possible.
