After today's reports from the Tages-Anzeiger and the Tribune de Genève, HC Davos officially announced the signing of the 30-year-old.

Robert Mayer will join HC Davos from the next season with a four-year contract. With this signing, HCD wants to make sure that they have a Swiss goalie on their roster for several years to come, as revealed by the team manager Raeto Raffainer: "As of today we are very satisfied with our two goaltenders, however, I have to plan for the medium term. With Robert Mayer, we now had the chance to sign a goalkeeper which will give us stability for the next few years. The possibility of hiring a goalie of this caliber will probably no longer exist in a year or two. That's why we had to seize this opportunity to engage Mayer now."

Raffainer also adds that the future of the two current goalies is open at the moment: "As of today, I'd rather have three goalkeepers than just one."

Both of HCD's current goalies, Joren van Pottelberghe and Sandro Aeschlimann, have contracts which are valid until 2021. But van Pottelberghe wants to play in the NHL one day and it is possible that he will get a chance to take his first steps in the AHL next season.
