In an interview with the Journal du Jura, Martin Steinegger talks about EHC Biel's goaltender situation. Asked about Joey Daccord as a potential successor of Jonas Hiller, the team manager said: "I did my homework. But I can't see a young man at the doorstep of the NHL talking to a Swiss club a year in advance. [...] As a result, he is not an option at the moment."

He also confirms that he had an informal talk with HC Fribourg-Gottéron's Reto Berra this summer. However, they did not negotiate or extend an offer to the goaltender. Robert Mayer, who, according to Elite Prospects, will also test the market, is not an option for the Seelanders.

Apropos NHL, Damien Riat, who is going to miss the first six games of the season due to being in camp with the Washington Capitals, will play in Switzerland this season. While his deal includes an NHL out-clause, he would have had to sign a new deal with a team by July 15 in order to be able to leave EHC Biel, Steinegger reveals to the Journal du Jura.
