After eleven years on his second run with the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers, Antonio Rizzello is not going to return to the team once the new season starts, as the club announced today. As the 34-year-old mentioned in an interview with the Südostschweiz two weeks ago, it is likely that he will retire but there is also a small chance of him continuing his career somewhere else.
Rizzello was with the Lakers a total of 16 years, only interrupted by two seasons away from the Rosenstädter, playing for the SCL Tigers and HC Fribourg-Gottéron. He made 869 games in the two top leagues in Switzerland, recording 142 goals and 156 assists. The forward was part of the team that was relegated in 2015, but also won the Swiss League title in 2018 and regained their spot in the National League.
