As the Neue Zürcher Zeitung reports, based on a statement of player agent Daniel Giger, Raphael Diaz would not accept having to report to the Rangers' AHL-affiliate in Hartford, if he should clear waivers unclaimed.

Diaz did not survive the New York Rangers' final roster cut and was, as a consequence, placed on waivers yesterday. If his NHL career continues or not, in a first step, will be decided at the latest until 3 pm (CET) today, when the deadline expires. If he should clear waivers without being picked up by one of the other 29 NHL teams, then Diaz will have to report to the Rangers' AHL-affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack.

According to his player agent Daniel Giger, however, the 29-year-old defender would aim at a return to Europe (NLA or KHL), rather than playing in the AHL. But, it remains an open question whether the Rangers would grant him such a release, since his contract does not contain an out-clause. (rlu)
