"Currently, two proposals are being discussed by the Federal Council and the cantons. The first is a national limit of 1,000 people until 31 March 2021 for all sports events and shows. The second would allow adjustments to be made by the cantons," Lausanne HC's president Patrick de Preux revealed at yesterday's press conference (relayed by 24 heures).
The third option would, of course be, that the ban on more spectators gets lifted by August 31 but that seems unlikely at this time, insiders tell journalists Jérôme Reynard and Fabian Renz (published in the Tages-Anzeiger). De Preux added that the first option would not work for them at all, as they would not be able to cover all their expenses.
The second option, on the other hand, would provide some leeway to the organizers of the mass events. In this scenario more than 1,000 spectators would be possible if the authorities will approve the organizers' concepts and proposals. "Our ice rink lends itself well to social distancing. We haven't yet made any calculations in terms of gauge, but we can partition the arena, set up a contact tracing system, and make it compulsory to wear a mask," De Preux states, adding that this solution would be feasible for them.
It remains to be seen which option the Federal Council will go with. In all likeliness, the decision will be made on August 12, the first meeting of the Federal Council after the summer break.
