Timo Meier's contract will run out at the end of this season. If the Sharks were to close in on a potential trade, the Sharks will allow Timo Meier and his agent Claude Lemieux to talk to the team(s) in question.
Because of his RFA status, San Jose would have to issue Meier a 10-million qualifying offer this summer in order to retain his rights.
The Devils are not the only New York-based team with interest in the Swiss forward. According to Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff, the Rangers are another team that has him as a trade target.
