As Dan Rosen writes on nhl.com, the Wild had discussions with Kevin Fiala prior to the firing of Paul Fenton on July 30. The Wild's owner Craig Leopold told Fiala's agent Claude Lemieux that they will resume their talks once they have appointed Fenton's successor.

"I was a little concerned with Fenton gone and what's going on now," Fiala said during the NHL European Player Media Tour. "But they still want to keep me, so there's no concern about that now."

Kevin Fiala received a qualifying offer by the Wild at the end of June. The Swiss forward has been part of their organization since February 2019, when he was traded to them by the Nashville Predators.
