"I have always said to myself that the day I am no longer at the top of my game in either physical fitness, mental fitness, or athletic performance, then it is time to stop. So I decided to retire at the end of the season," Tobias Stephan states.

The goaltender adds that his body no longer allows him to be "100 % at the service of the team" and that his retirement is thus the logical consequence.

Stephan is a product of EHC Kloten's organization but played his first pro games for EHC Chur in the 2001-02 season. Drafted by the Dallas Stars in 2002, he also played three seasons in North America and made his NHL debut in the 2007-08 season.

In 2009, he returned to Switzerland and stayed with Genève-Servette HC for five seasons. In 2014, he became a member of EV Zug and stayed with them until he signed with Lausanne HC in 2019.
