The contract of the defenseman will expire at the end of the 2021-22 season. The Bears are looking to extend it.

"Yes, we hope to sign him to an early contract extension before the start of the season," team manager Andrew Ebbett tells Klaus Zaugg (Watson). "We have an interest in him staying and he sees his future in Bern."

According to Zaugg, Ebbett is looking to sign Ramon Untersander to a four- or five-year deal. The Bears are also busy trying to come to an agreement with Romain Loeffel. The Berner Zeitung reported last week that the defender is set to join SC Bern in 2022.

As Zaugg reports, the Bears want to sign him to "at least a four-year contract." Whether this deal will come to fruition or how it will look like remains to be seen, but Chris McSorley already confirmed to Watson that Romain Loeffel will leave HC Lugano in 2022.

Another defenseman, Eric Blum, is still recovering from his concussion, but apparently, as per Andrew Ebbett, chances are good that he will return to the lineup. The team manager hopes to see the defender back sometime in September.
