"I feel completely at home in Fribourg, why should I move again?," Berra asks in an interview with the Freiburger Nachrichten after he signed a new four-year deal with the Dragons. For the former NHL goalie, the entire package in Fribourg is a good fit and he sees a promising future: "I'm extremely looking forward to the new arena," he says. "We're on the right track. I feel this spirit that is so important."
The Dragons' team manager Christian Dubé confirms the high aspirations of the club: "We want to mature into a top team over the next few years," he says to the same source. "With Berra in goal, we have a big advantage in this respect. I think he and Leonardo Genoni are in the same category."
Reto Berra's and Christian Dubé's joy, however, is Ludovic Waeber sorrow. With Berra's contract extension, the door for Gottéron's 23-year-old backup goalie seems to be closed: "That's business," Dubé says. "I had to make the best choice for Gottéron - and that's Berra." Waeber's contract will expire at the end of the upcoming season.
