Is Yannick Weber's time in the NHL coming to an end? During his 24 hours on waivers, he has not been claimed by any NHL-team. As a consequence, Weber has been assigned to the Canucks' AHL farm-team, the Utica Comets.

On the bright side, Weber would still earn his full NHL-salary, as he has signed a one-way contract with the Canucks at the beginning of the summer. However, his chances to be part of the Swiss team of the Olympics 2014 in Sochi might decrease rapidly.

According to "News1130 Sports", his agent Larry Kelly hasn't spoken with Weber yet and does not know if Weber will actually report to Utica. A first tweet by Weber implicates, that he will join Utica and try his best in the AHL - at least for a while: "...when you truly want success, you'll never give up on it. No matter how bad the situation may get".

Thus it is still possible that Yannick Weber might return to Switzerland, but probably not immediately. It is known that his youth team SC Bern has been in contact with him during several weeks now and also Chris McSorley's Genève-Servette HC would like to have Weber back on their team, as he has already played there during last year's NHL-lockout.

To be continued...
