NHL - Nino "El Niño" Niederreiter might stay for a few more years in Minnesota. As the Pioneer Press reports, the Wild have initiated talks with his player agent about a multi-year contract extension.

The only 21-year-old Swiss forward leaves behind a fantastic season, his first-ever complete NHL season so far.

Acquired from the New York Islanders in exchange for Cal Clutterbuck last Summer, Niederreiter was able to score 36 points (14 goals, 22 assists) in 81 regular season games and proved to be a horse for the Wild by recording three goals and three assists during the playoffs.

After a rocky few years in New York, Niederreiter has become a foundation piece for Minnesota, and it is highly improbable that the Wild will let him go to test the market as a restricted free agent (RFA) this summer.
