National League

NLA - Even though EHC Biel lost last night against the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in the playout final, Biel holds onto his head coach Kevin Schäpfer for now and will face the league qualification with him behind the boards.

EHCB's CEO Daniel Villard tells Blick.ch that "everyone is under pressure now and the coach is always the weakest link in the chain." However, he makes clear that Schläpfer is important to the team: "We have repeatedly proven that we support Kevin. He has our trust."

In an interview with Klaus Zaugg on fantiger.ch, the head coach echos that sentiment, but not without pointing out that everything stands and falls with EHC Biel's performance in the league qualification: "We discussed the situation thoroughly and have come to the conclusion that it's better if I stay. At least for the time being, but if we are down 0-2 in the series... If that happens, we do need to re-evaluate the situation."

Kevin Schläpfer signed a three-year contract extension last summer and is technically under contract with EHC Biel until the end of the 2015/16 season. The outcome of the league qualification will probably determine, whether or not he will actually stay until then.
